Zdeno Chara is a Slovak professional ice hockey defenseman. He is the captain of the Boston Bruin and won the Norris Trophy while playing for them in 2008–09. Chara was drafted 56th overall by the New York Islanders in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. After four seasons with the Islanders, he was traded to the Ottawa Senators during the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. As unrestricted free agent he signed a five-year, $37.5 million contract with the Boston Bruins and was named the team's captain in July 2006. At 6 ft 9, he is the tallest player ever to play in the NHL and the second European born and trained captain to win the Stanley Cup on June 15, 2011. Chara competed in his first NHL All Star game in 2003. At the 2007 All Star skills competition Big Z won his first hardest shot competition with a shot of 100.4 MPH. During 2008 All Star game skills competition Big Z won his hardest shot competition, setting a new record with a 105.4 mph slap shot, a record he would break the following year when he blasted a 105.9 MPH shot. During the 2012 competition, Chara shattered his own record blasting a 108.8 MPH shot. Chara has won 5 hardest shot competitions in a row. On January 17, 2011 Chara achieved a rare hat trick or a defensemen in a 7-0 win against Carolina.
